Focusing On What Matters - A Founder's Message

From 2014 to 2018, I built and eventually sold a venture-capital backed cybersecurity product company named ICEBRG. We were often successful in increasing the security of customers – but not without friction. Among all the lessons I learned building and leading the company, one became a cornerstone of the founding of Blackthorne: The value of technology can be realized only if there are highly trained personnel, mature processes, and other integrated technologies that enable success. Said another way, cybersecurity programs are like a complex equation: They require a more holistic approach than any single technology vendor can offer, and there is still a lot of room for improvement in the programs of most large companies.

I founded Blackthorne with the mission of helping clients build and strengthen their capabilities and processes; providing comprehensive security training; and, ultimately, helping organizations build their own world-class security programs. Our role is to be long-term partners of our customers –- ultimately delivering services focused on cloud security, capability development, and technical security consultants. Our goal is to support the development of industry-leading capabilities and programs for our customers, allowing them to operate securely and effectively.

At Blackthorne, we have assembled a team of highly skilled professionals who are experts in their respective disciplines, ranging from incident response and recovery to red team operations –- ultimately blending offensive and defensive skillsets to approach the most difficult challenges our customers face. Rather than the cookie-cutter approach large services companies provide, we aim to tailor our solutions to the specific needs of our customers -- with a focus on innovation and integration, and never losing sight of the context of our work in the larger programs of these customers.

The pace of cybersecurity challenges shows no sign of slowing down. With the shift of technology, specifically the realm of cloud-technology, enabling businesses to move faster and with less friction, cybersecurity programs need to adapt too. We will continue to update this blog with a range of technical and executive content based on our work partnering with customers. Thank you for taking the time to be part of our community, and we look forward to engaging with you and your teams in meaningful and impactful ways.
